Podcast Side Project: Episode 3
This week, we interviewed our Studio 1 lecturer, Pete Trimbacher.
We had the same 5 microphones set up around the table and waited for Pete for us to start the podcast. We all wrote down questions specific to Pete beforehand and some of the questions I wanted to ask were about his music taste in high school and his experience with the music scene in Austria or Germany and how that compares to the music scene in Brisbane. The other members had questions about how he got into modular synths, electronic music and what were his views on the music industry and if there's anything he'd change in the industry.
In the interview, there were a LOT of laughs. We had some impersonations of different Austrian dialects from Pete, talked about the sun difference between Queensland and Austria, Liam shared a pick up line, and did a shout out to Austria and Queensland to feature on our podcast. Besides all the fun and other funny stories (that you can listen to here's a bit of what we learnt from him.
We were able to find out that his first club night was at The Family, his first instrument he owned was a key tar synthesiser, and that if he had to be a module, he'd be a filter because he'd have a more control over the sound, which I thought were all very interesting things to know. It was cool to know that he went through a hip hop phase and a breakdancing phase in high school (and got suspended for head spinnin! bloody wild.) and didn't get into music producing until his late teens. We then got into his experience at SAE as well as his experience with the industry. He enjoys learning from teaching and learning new things from students' projects and implementing that into his projects. In the industry, he wishes to see changes in the way music is commercialised and how that needs to settle down, as he sees artists not making much money through streaming, compared to what artists used to make through physical sales such as albums, which I strongly agree with. I still buy the albums of my absolute favourite artists when I have the money as I think it's better to have the physical item and it also helps the artists.
I learnt new and interesting things about Pete, especially how he had a hip-hop phase and he did breakdancing, which I thought was really cool to know! Pete is also travelling to Germany later in the year to work on and release some music there (the city that you'd want to release music if you want it to go viral), so we've asked him to feature on our podcast after he releases all his albums and becomes a popular elm producer, so Future Pete, we're gettin you on the podcast.
For our album reviews for this week, I reviewed How To Socialise and Make Friends by the all-girl band Camp Cope and was released this year. I've heard of the band Camp Cope before but have never dug into their music, as I don't really listen to rock music on the daily. But yeah, I actually enjoyed it and it was quite relaxing to listen to. You can listen to the full review at 48:51 of the podcast!
This week, it was Brea's turn to do the editing and she did a great job! I think I'll be doing the editing either next week or the next, but I'm pretty keen to edit. Next week, we're getting Caleb from Student Services and it'll be interesting as we all haven't met him yet, and he is the only interviewee who isn't an audio lecturer so this will be interesting! Check my next blog post about Episode 4 to see how it went!
