AUM162: Week 9

This week, we were introduced to our last milestone for Project 1: Transcribing the rhythm, melody and harmony for Alicia Key's Fallin'.

Like the previous 2 transcriptions, We had to map out the song structure of the song, the number of bars in each song section, the tempo, time signature and key signature, and the instruments playing in each section. After, we then had to analyse and transcribe the rhythm and notes of the piano part, the bass line, and the drums. These instruments needed to be transcribed for its full length of the song. Our lecturer spent majority of the lecture introducing us to the assignment as well as answering any questions or clarifying anything we weren't sure about. We then began working on the transcription.

For this piece, I wanted to challenge myself and planned to transcribe the vocals as well: both main and backing vocals/harmonies. It'd be good to try and transcribe as much as I can as it'd give me a good insight of every element and to see how they all work together.

Again, I'd like to continue doing transcriptions of songs and analyse tracks I really like or that I use as references as I'd be able to see how the artist arranges their instruments/rhythms which I hope to learn from and then apply on my compositions.
