Project 2: Covert Carbs

There's been a huge turn around for Project 2 and I'm glad to say that I'm now working with games students! I've had to scrap my previous plan for my Project 2 as the other student I was going to work with had a lot on his plate already and I couldn't get any time for a band to come in and record. I was a tad stressed at that point and didn't know who to turn to for collaboration (especially when I needed to work with someone from another discipline) but thankfully!! another audio student asked me to join her on a game project that she's been working on for a while, without hesitation, I accepted.

This game project is led by the Carbarian's (Riley, Ben and Dan) and the game is called Covert Carbs (great name). So the aim of the game is that your playing character needs to deliver pizza to the destination without getting caught by "vegan-health-freak" enemies that patrol the suburb and guard it from any fast-food entering the compound. I think it's a great concept and it also relates to this day and age where I hear more and more people converting to being vegan or vegetarians. I actually played the game as a test run and it was pretty difficult as the enemies were moving fast and their radars took up a large space so you were easily detected. The vocal samples that the guys recorded were really funny and the whole design as really good! Really wished that I was part of this project when they started as it would've been a fun journey to see how this turned out.

Because I was brought into this project a bit late, I missed out on helping my friend with recording some of the sound effects that they needed or editing the sounds, and she had already composed a couple fo background tracks. The job I was told to do so far was to compose 1 song that'll loop in the background. For a reference, I'll be using "Moment Musical" by Raymond Smith as one of my reference tracks along with other cartoon music from the Golden Age as I know those types of songs would suit this game. I plan to have my music be composed in 5/4 and plan to use jazz instruments such as a double bass, some woodwind or brass instruments, etc.

I hope they have some more audio work that I can record/edit as I feel bad for not doing much but I'm not entirely sure as they said they were almost at the finish line. I also asked if there is anything else to do and two of the students in the Carbarian's said that they needed some audio work done for their next project and they'd be happy if I lent a hand so I gladly said yes. I'll be getting their audio assets soon and I'm pretty keen that I'd be getting to work with games again, as it's been fun so far (even though I've been in this project for about 2.5 weeks). They are really nice as well, and I've met them through a class last trimester so I'm glad that I'll get to work with them.

In my next blog post, I'll be writing a small post mortem about this project as well as showing you guys my completed composition and my process on how I did it.
