New Project: Sound Replacement for Carrie (1976)
After a much needed break, I am glad to be back for Tri 4 and am ready to start pumpin out projects. For my first project, it is required to do a sound replacement for a scene from a movie or something similar so I have teamed up with 2 girls and we have decided to do sound replacement for the prom scene of Brian De Palma's Carrie from 1976. In the prom scene, there is a lot of crazy events going on so recording and mixing the sounds for this scene will be interesting and challenging, but we're willing to give it a go.
So, the scene is about Carrie getting crowned as prom queen along with her partner. The audience is clapping until a bucket of pig's blood gets dropped on her by a bunch of kids. Now then audience is laughing and being cruel while she is standing there shocked and feeling humiliated, covered in the blood. She then lets loose and uses her telekinetic powers to give hell to them. Carrie shuts all the doors to not let anyone escape, switches all the lights to red and starts the party off with some high pressured hoses; spraying the water at everyone. Everyone is running around screaming, trying to save their lives. The hoses eventually hit the lights and causes major electrical sparks. The principal is caught up in the electrical sparks and catches fire, which then spreads across the stage and eventually throughout the entire hall. The scene ends with her walking out with the venue behind her up in flames.
We've collected some audio assets so far and the categories we need are Foley Sounds, ADR, Atmos and a Soundtrack. Here are just some of the sounds we need for each just to give you an idea of what we'd like to record.
Foley
- Bucket
- Water (for the blood)
- Fire
- Electrical Noises
ADR
- Laughing
- Footsteps
- Clapping
- Gasps
Atmos
- Door
- Stage Lights
- Night Sounds
- Room sound (of the hall)
After recording these and editing them, we'll be making a soundtrack after suit the scene as well.
Over the coming days, I'll be posting updates of the project as we'll be recording soon and will be taking about how we went about it. I've haven't really worked with foley a lot and I'm quite nervous about how our recordings will turn out as there's so much going on in the scene.
But other than that, I'm pretty excited to start this project with my team members and yeah, I think she'll be sweet.
